VA Northern California Health Care System takes an active role in developing and maintaining successful partnerships which enhance our ability to provide the highest quality of health care services available, while offering valuable training opportunities for tomorrow's health care professionals.

Academic Partners

VA Northern California Health Care System is primarily affiliated with the University of California at Davis *. Nearly 400 university residents and over 100 medical students are trained at the Sacramento VA Medical Center and Martinez Outpatient Clinic and Center for Rehabilitation and Extended Care each year.

In addition, VANCHCS holds 95 additional current affiliations with educational facilities to train over 350 students and interns in a variety of health care professions including audiology, dentistry, health science, nuclear medicine, nursing, optometry, pharmacy, podiatry, psychology, social work, sonography, and speech pathology.

Department of Defense (DOD) Sharing

VA Northern California Health Care System maintains a successful VA/DOD Sharing Agreement with the United States Air Force at Travis Air Force Base. This agreement includes the provision of inpatient, emergency room, and limited specialty services, including a jointly operated hemodialysis unit at David Grant USAF Medical Center *. DOD also operates specialty clinics within the VA Fairfield Outpatient Clinic and a satellite TRICARE clinic at the VA McClellan Outpatient Clinic.

Veterans Service Organizations (VSO)

VA Northern California Health Care System maintains excellent working relationships with all of our Veterans Service Organization * partners. We regularly brief our VSO representatives on changes impacting veterans' health care and work closely with them to resolve issues affecting the veterans we serve.
