Why log on to www.myhealth.va.gov, My HealtheVet?
The mission of My HealtheVet is to improve health care for all Veterans by providing one-stop online access to better manage health, make informed health decisions and store important health and military history information. Register at www.myhealth.va.gov and become an active partner in your health care. To get the most out of your My HealtheVet Personal Health Record, visit your local VA facility to get an upgraded account, known as In-Person Authentication (IPA). You can ask Primary Care staff, the Business, or Release of Information offices.
What is and IPA? IPA stands for In-Person Authentication. With a basic account, you have the capability to refill your medications online. With an IPA, or upgraded account, this allows you to see your lab results, appointments, wellness reminders, and use Secure Messaging. To receive an upgraded My HealtheVet account, veterans are asked to visit their nearest clinic, show a form of ID, sign a release of information form, and watch a short video. Please log in to your account, select the "Personal Information Tab" then "My profile". You will need to confirm in your profile that your name reads as it does on your VA card and that the "VA Patient" box is checked under the "Relationship to VA" portion. You can complete and print the release of information form below at home or you can fill this out at the clinic. An IPA can be accomplished at Primary Care, or the Business and Release of Information offices. If the above items are not addressed, we will be unable to IPA/upgrade the account.
Once your account has been IPA'd/upgraded, you will have the capability to send messages to your healthcare team. You will simply select the "Secure Messaging Tab," open Secure Messaging, read the terms and conditions, and "Opt-In". This will take you to your inbox.
