Health Care Heroes
Marie Johnson was recently honored by the Redding Searchlight Newspaper and was given the “Health Care Heroes” award for her distinguished volunteer service at the Redding VA Outpatient Clinic. Marie has been volunteering nearly 10 hours per week for the last 8 years. Marie’s husband is a disabled Veteran who receives care at the Redding OPC and after retiring from her regular career, friends at the clinic encouraged her to come aboard as a volunteer. Marie works at the information booth and is tasked with many responsibilities, from answering phones and tracking donations, to scheduling transportation, writing thank you letters and standing ready to assist Veterans with just about any issue that may arise. Marie was honored and humbled to receive the award and stated that she “felt privileged to give what little time she can for those who have given so much of theirs.” Coworker Teresa Henrion says that Marie is “a champion of teamwork and cooperation with other Volunteers and inspires others to effect positive change in the health care environment.” The Health Care Heroes Award is given annually and presented to the winners in a special ceremony. This year over 160 individuals were nominated and only 30 were selected to receive the award. Congratulations Marie and thank you for all that you do for Veterans!
