Peer Support

Mental health clinics and programs throughout NCHCS employ Peer Specialists who are fully functioning members of the teams to which they are assigned. Peers are Veterans in recovery who have been trained to help others with mental health and/or substance use issues identify and achieve specific life and recovery goals. They serve as role models, provide education and support, and empower Veterans by helping them to identify strengths, supports, resources, and skills. Peer support services are designed to promote skills for managing symptoms, facilitate the use of natural resources, and enhance community living skills.
